Taylor County Child Care Training

The 1985 Florida Legislature passed a law which required the Department of Children and Families to develop an introductory Child Care Training for child care personnel to complete, in addition to the annual in-service training requirement. During the 1991 Legislative session, the law increased the Introductory Child Care Training requirement from 20 to 30 hours. During the 1999 Legislative session the law increased the introductory Child Care Training requirement from 30 to 40 hours.

Part 1

Part I of the mandated introductory child care training requirement for child care facility personnel is composed of the following five training modules:

  • State and Local Rules and Regulations;
  • Health, Safety, and Nutrition;
  • Identifying and Reporting Child Abuse and Neglect;
  • Child Growth & Development;
  • Behavioral Observation and Screening.

Part II

PART II of the mandated, introductory child care training requirement for child care facility personnel includes a selection of one of the following specialized training modules:

  • Infant and Toddler Appropriate Practices;
  • Pre-School Appropriate Practices;
  • School-Age Appropriate Practices;
  • Special Needs Appropriate Practices.

It is recommended that child care facility personnel attend training in the specialized area in which they work; however, they may attend any or all of the modules. It is also recommended that these specialized training areas be taken to meet the 10 hour in-service training requirement.

The completion of both Part I and Part II satisfies the 40-Hour Introductory Child Care Training requirement established by law.

Documentation of Course Completion

Successful completion of the Introductory Child Care Training requirement is documented on the Department of Children and Families Child Care Training Transcript.

A copy of the Child Care Training Transcript for all child care personnel must be maintained in the individual’s file at the child care facility.

Time Frames

Within 90 days of employment, child care facility personnel must begin training to meet the 40-Hour Introductory Child Care Training requirement. Training must be completed (Part I and Part II) within 1 year of the date on which the training began as evidenced by passage of a competency examination.

Child care personnel hired on or after October 1, 1992, must complete Part I and Part II of the 40-clock hour Introductory Child Care Training.

Child care personnel hired prior to October 1, 1992, must complete Part I and the 40-clock hour Introductory Child Care Training and not Part II unless they change employment.
